Hi! My name is Alysha and welcome to my little corner of the internet. Through the years I’ve watched and admired my aunt, Jen, at Cincy Shopper, grow her community through writing about food. I’m a pharmacist in desperate need of a creative outlet due to the very non-creative nature of my profession. Don’t get me wrong, I love helping my patients and love what I do, but I also love food. Who doesn’t? Right?
I currently in Cleveland, Ohio with my fiancé, Patrick, and two wonderful kitties, Ollie and Shaq (yep… like Shaquille O’Neal – he’s a hefty 25 lbs with large feet). My fiancé and I love traveling and spend most of our free hanging out with family and friends, working on updating our 130-year-old home, or kayaking on Lake Erie. I also love reading, crocheting, training for half marathons, listening to inspirational podcasts, and visiting my little sister in Cincinnati.
I have been gluten and dairy-free for the past three years. Prior to that, I had always thought that my symptoms (sharp stomach pains and nausea) came from stress, but every now and then I’d notice symptoms after eating and could never pinpoint the cause. I’ve since learned that symptoms can sometimes present 24-72 hours after eating the culprit food!
In November of 2016, my friend had a rotation with a doctor who focused on holistic medicine and encountered numerous patients with similar symptoms as me. She recommended me to his nutritionist on staff, so I made an appointment with her that week. When my blood work came back, it revealed that I had a sensitivity to gluten and an allergy to dairy. The nutritionist sent me on my way with a short list of “yes” and “no” foods and no clue how to live a gluten-free and dairy-free lifestyle. Since then, I have been constantly learning all about how to cook tasty foods free of gluten/dairy and want to share some of my favorites with you!
Join me on my journey through cooking tasty, (mostly) gluten-free/dairy-free, recipes to enjoy with friends and family. Also, I’m not a professional chef – so believe me when I say that if I can make the recipe, you most certainly can too!
I would love to hear from you – you can contact me through Facebook, Instagram, or email me at [email protected]
